Algae Shield is an all-natural, mineral-based solution applied to lakes, ponds, and fountains to remove phosphates and other nutrients that contribute to algae growth. It eliminates up to 95% of phosphates in the water, providing a natural, mineral-based solution to green ponds and lakes.
Scott Aerator Algae Shield works by bonding to nutrients and forming insoluble particles that settle to the bottom of the lake, keeping nutrients tightly bound and biologically unavailable. Depending on the method of application, these particles can create a long-term nutrient barrier that lasts for up to 15 years.
With silicate-based enhancement technology, Algae Shield from Scott Aerator operates effectively across a broad pH range, improving particle stability and accelerating nutrient removal. By addressing eutrophication and algae blooms at their source, Algae Shield helps restore ecosystem function and supports healthy fish habitats.
Each five gallon bucket contains 22 lbs. of Algae Shield and treats up to 500,000 gallons of water.
See product label/documentation for complete application details.
-
Prepare
Mix product and water in a separate bucket at a 4:1 ratio (four parts water to one part product).
-
Pour
Transfer the mixed slurry into an applicator (such as a backpack sprayer or similar equipment).
-
Apply
Distribute slurry evenly across the surface of the pond or body of water.
-
Clean & Store
Rinse the applicator thoroughly, empty the rinse water back into the pond, and store the equipment for future use.
Application Tips
-
Do not mix the product directly in the applicator. Always use a separate container to prevent buildup and potential damage to your equipment.
-
Use the wind to your advantage. Wind can help distribute the mixture more evenly across the water’s surface. Remember that beneath the surface, the product will move diagonally with water flow.
-
Maintain the correct dilution ratio (4:1). Avoid over-diluting — the water’s surface should appear slightly red/brown during application, but not so dark that the mixture becomes thick or gummy in your applicator.
-
Equipment recommendation: For best results, use a trash pump or other continuous agitation equipment to keep the slurry well-mixed during application.
The application process will look different for every project, and some steps may need to be adjusted to fit your needs.
